Toxic (Ruin #2) by Rachel Van Dyken

Goodreads Summary:
Everyone has a secret...

Gabe Hyde is on borrowed time. He's been hiding his identity for over four years-hidden from the world that used to adore him--obsess over him--driven to the edge of insanity by one poor choice.
But that one choice, altered the course of his life forever.
Pretending isn't all it's cracked up to be, especially when pretending means hiding your real self from the people that care about you the most. But if anyone ever discovered the truth it wouldn't just be his life at risk--but hers.

Saylor doesn't hate men.
Just Gabe.
Only Gabe.
He's a reckless, happy-go-lucky, silver spoon fed pain in her ass. Everything about him makes her more and more confused. Unfortunately they both donate time at the same Group Home. If she wasn't afraid of flunking, she'd be long gone. She hates that she's attracted to him almost as much as he hates that he's attracted to her--and she can tell, especially since their first encounter ended up making her knees so weak she couldn't form coherent sentences for weeks afterwards. But the closer she gets to him, the more confused she becomes. He isn't who he says he is, and he's hiding something big.

What happen when two worlds collide? Two worlds that never should have met in the first place? Some secrets are too big to be hidden forever--the only question? Will his destroy everyone he loves? Or finally bring about the redemption he's been craving for the past four years?

Everyone has a secret...What's yours?

Another amazing piece of work  by Rachel Van Dyken!!! This woman was made to write novels. She keeps the reader so captivated throughout the whole novel by shocking reveals and mystery laced throughout it. I'm usually good at predicting the outcome of books but with her books it's up in the air and I LOVE IT! You never know what's going to happen.

The pain some of these characters go through feels so real you feel as if you're actually there living through everything with them! Rachel Van Dyken is officially my new favorite author. I love when you can feel the emotions through the pages, that, my friend, is when you know you have found yourself an amazing author.

Gabe isn't who he seems and it was an exciting and emotional journey figuring out what happened and how they ended up the way they were. I can't say much more because like the first book in the series it's so much better to find out on your own. Trust me on this.

I love how they had switching point of views between Gabe and Saylor. You got to get into both of their heads and it was an amazing choice that Rachel made.

Even though this book is about Gabe and Saylor I do recommend reading the first book in the series first because not only are Wes and Kierstan mentioned in this story but they will briefly here and there mention things that happens in their book. The second book basically picks up around the same time (give or take a few months) the first book ends.

Honestly, if you are looking for a new series that is going to make you feel like you're right there in the moment with the characters and a story that is going to keep you on the edge of your seat this series is FOR YOU!

I love the way Rachel writes. Not only does she make you feel thoroughly  connected with the characters but how they talk is how normal people talk. Not once was I sitting there thinking "WTH?" over what a character said. These characters feel real, what they say feels real and that's honestly so refreshing because lately it has seemed like I've read so many cheesy romantic stories!

Some of the quotes in this book I absolutely LOVE! Here are a few that I marked while reading:

“People rarely mean what they say. To me, sorry was just another word in the English language that people misused — like love.”

“Because everyone knows, when it comes to love, it’s not the fall that hurts… it’s the landing.”

“Baring your soul to someone is like purposefully stabbing yourself in the heart and waiting for the person you love to stop the bleeding —Wes M.”

I loved way more quotes throughout this book but didn't want to put them here because I didn't want to spoil anything or give anything away.

I also love the little thoughts or quotes right before each chapter that a character says. I would definietly recommend reading those because I know some people like to skip little things like that just so they can get on with the chapter.

If you couldn't guess already, I absolutely loved this book and the previous book as well and recommend it to everyone! Please go out and read this book, you won't be disappointed whatsoever!

Love,
Liv
